Interesting read, thanks. You acknowledge greater familiarity with Australia, but never really demonstrate the naivetee or backwards-looking approach of Carney. Carney does appear to be going beyond mere platitudes from the past and demonstrating a vision for international politics under a new structure. He does, however, seem to be attaching himeself to a rheotrical brand that that relies on exactly the appeal you critique.

Yup: ‘The intellectual architecture of middle power diplomacy is now a vintage spitball.’

This essay is the 'wedgiest' that I've read in a while. It is akin to the 'straight, with no chaser metaphor.'

I am of the belief that nothing on earth can, meaningfully, alter their political/economic orientations away from the hegemonic football club regardless of the socioeconomic fallout/circumstances. Their commitment to the 'team' is DNA-esque connected. But nice try though.

My view.

“Wedgiest” - I like that. I’d have to agree with you on the DNA-esque rut, and the evidence of that is slapping us in the face every day and probably will go even further real soon. Ain’t no one reading this academic’s blog for policy advice!

Lol....

You've got to create a power point slide-deck to give it added punch!
